Project Finance Foundations Course
The Project Finance Foundations Course (the “Course”) introduces a new standard for cost effective, on-demand Project Finance training. Drawing on the experience of long term practitioners we have created an e-learning program that differentiates itself from other courses, by providing concise, concentrated and practical training right at the learner’s fingertips when it is most required i.e. right in the middle of a transaction. Learn which questions to ask, which numbers to look at, and which factors to consider. Discover how to look objectively at the risks and see a complex picture in a clear, orderly way.
Adult Learning Principles
The Course has been designed keeping in mind adult learning principles. Learning is enhanced by providing relevant information in progressively increasing levels of detail and in many different ways. The user can pace his/her progress through the course, skipping areas of existing competency and focussing on areas where there is most value add. Concepts can be reviewed as many times as required and are reinforced with quizzes and scenarios. The learner is asked to make decisions and receives instant feedback. All this, without having to leave the office and at less than half the cost of a traditional program. Over 7 modules, this course provides 30+ hours of learning content.

Mastering Project Finance Models
The Mastering Project Finance Models Course uses a “building block” approach to comprehensively demystify the supposed complexity of project finance models. Course participants are shown how all project finance models can be broken down into 10 core components. The logic flow required to build each of these core modules is thoroughly explained using multi-media interactive elements, video and step by step visual and written instructions. Excel features required to build project finance models such as key excel functions and shortcuts are fully explained. The Course also examines the necessity of good model structure and layout and the elements of modelling best practice.
The Course takes the participant step by step through the process of building a project finance model. The model participants are required to build is fully scoped (see below) and comes with over 350+ pages of documentation. Customised spreadsheets are provided for each Module to make the training efficient and effective.
The Course offers an exceptional level of one-on-one support. Unlimited tutorial support is provided via e-mail. Additional support in the form of one-on-one phone conferencing/screen sharing webinars is also offered on a ‘as required” basis. The Course is self-paced and available on demand.
Participants will learn how to build a Construction Costs Module that can model up to 14 different cost categories and allow for monthly cash requirements during construction to be accurately calculated. The module will be able to model both fixed and escalating costs as well as variable payment schedules.
Participants will build a Construction Funding module that incorporates two separate debt tranches and an equity amount. They will learn how to build in flexibility so that the order of drawdown can be easily changed between three options i.e. pro-rata drawdown, equity before debt and equity on completion. Participants will create a “Sources and Uses” table and learn how to manage key variables such that a targeted gearing is achieved at the end of construction. They will learn how to convert monthly to quarterly and annual cashflows.
Participants will build a Term Debt Module that incorporates two separate debt tranches with the ability to vary margins and hedging profiles period by period. They will learn to build in repayment schedules that can easily be changed from quarterly to semi-annual/annual repayments if required. Participants will also learn how to build in different repayment profiles i.e. a mortgage style, equal repayment or a sculpted profile.
Participants will build a Revenues Module that can incorporate multiple volume and tariff elements with different price paths and seasonality.
Participants will build an Operating Costs Module that can model fixed and variable costs and apply different escalation factors to each cost element.
Major Maintenance Expense
Participants will build a Major Maintenance Module that will convert real cost projections to nominal cost projections and have the flexibility to vary the timing of the expense period by period. They will also learn how to model a Maintenance Reserve Account and apply different reserving profiles to calculate the deposits that need to be made to the reserve account.
Participants will build a depreciation module that will assign all project costs to 7 different cost categories. They will learn how to build in flexibility such that certain expenses can be expensed when incurred or capitalised and then depreciated/amortised. They will build simple switches that will allow them to change between declining value and straight line depreciation as well as change the applicable depreciation rates.
Participants will learn how to build a working capital module that projects working capital requirements over the term of the loan. The module will incorporate a working capital facility.
Participants will learn how to build a tax module that will be able to carry forward tax losses.
Participants will learn how to build a Cashflow Waterfall and calculate key debt and equity metrics such as DSCR, Average DSCR, LLCR, PLCR, Average Life, IRR, Payback Period etc.
Participants will build an Income Statement, a Balance Sheet and a Statement of Cashflow on a quarterly and annualised basis.

The building block approach made it really easy for me to build an otherwise quite complex model. The step by step instructions and detailed explanations of all the formulae are a great reference.
